The Morning After...

The show was epic, to say the least. My boys Chromeo had a really great set, and you could feel the energy of the crowd swelling minute by minute, like a pipe about to explode. (pause) When Justice finally appeared and that cross lit up, the shit truly went through the roof. MSG security, who up until that point had been attempting to maintain order, finally just gave up. It was a great night for music. more pics later.

A Real Vampire Weekend ?

So i had kind of a crazy and stressful week. 1) My girl had the flu, 2) damn near my whole team at work is on vacation, 3) i had to run to the ends of the earth to by a sd card from some dude off of craigslist, 4) and my girl's parents are visiting. Again. The only thing that has gotten me through this week is the music of Vampire Weekend. Very mellow, very smart, and very good. No promises to change your life, just some really good music that'll keep you from killing somebody. And im going to see them perform at The Earl on Sunday. Yoink !

Your Kid's Not Special.

Why does everybody nowadays think their kid's a fucking genius ? Yesterday im in publix, and most sundays during post-church hours, grocery stores around atlanta get pretty busy. This sunday was no exception. Every checkout line was long so instead of getting in the express lane with my three items, i just chose the shortest. BIG mistake. After this lady loads her hundreth item on the belt, she realizes she "forgot the cheese". So she sends her 5 year old daughter to fetch some shredded mozzarella. We ended up waiting 15 minutes for this kid to come back, holding up the line in the middle of the sunday rush, even though it would have been easier (and safer) for her to leave the kid and get it herself. But that wouldn't have been as cute. And why not ? Because mama's baby is special.

Architectural Swagger : Pride Cleaners

This is the first edition in a series of many, where i highlight and discuss the history behind some of my favorite structures. Although my passion lies in mid-century modernism , i won't necessarily limit myself to that. For this first edition the spotlight is on Pride Cleaners, located on the south side of Chicago at 79th and Lawrence. Designed in 1959 by Chicago native Gerald Siegwart, Pride Cleaners was built in a style known as "Googie", named after a West Hollywood coffee shop, which pioneered this kind of design.

While i was there, some of my closest friends lost their grandmother, and a few days later i lost one of my other good friends. Kinda puts things in a different perspective.

Valentine's Day was a couple days ago, and although i really enjoyed myself its funny because i've never really understood it as a holiday. Somebody once referred to it as extortion day, which is only funny because its true. I believe that same someone also said, "Who do these women think they are with their pussies, titties, sex, and cooking ?". Classic. But on the other hand, i've always planned things around valentines day because i think its a great barometer for the rest of the year. If things are going good by the middle of february, i usually think im gonna have a pretty good year. SUPERTOY in 08
